Located on a unique 35 foot wide corner lot in Chicago's West Lakeview neighborhood, this single family home incorporates traditional detailing in a contemporary reinterpretation of the Queen Ann and Italianate Urban houses. The facade refines architectural themes that typify neighboring homes through the quality and composition of the limestone, brick, and ornamental metalwork. While encouraging a sense of horizontal and vertical connection, the plan articulates individual rooms and spatial sequences with decorative millwork, columns, and vaulted ceilings. The axial arrangement permits space to be visually borrowed from adjacent rooms and circulation elements. This progression establishes a formal, yet open character to reflect the young couple's desire for unique areas to entertain and relax. |
